279872 Dryer Timer Resistor

The dryer timer resistor 279872 is used on Whirlpool, Roper, KitchenAid, and Kenmore, Sears dryers.

 

Its function is to provide a circuit to feed power to the dryer timer motor when the control thermostat is in the open position. This resistor is used in the automatic mode. Because the heater has a much lower resistance when the control thermostat is closed the path of least resistance is through the heater. When the control thermostat cycles open the resistor feeds power to the timer motor.
